Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing

Our Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) solutions combine multiple capabilities into a single system in order to evaluate, measure and monitor complex reservoirs.
The DFOS solution for shale reservoirs integrates vertical seismic profiling (VSP), hydraulic fracture profiling and production flow monitoring in real time, from a single system. Using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology, this system enables operators to visualize borehole seismic data, completion operations, fracture propagation and productivity, along the entire wellbore, for the life of the asset. This insight leads to smarter well planning that optimizes development costs and enhances recovery.

In challenging deepwater, Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic acquisition is the technology of choice for a number of reasons; the most important being its ability to capture a high quality seismic image, which is critical for characterizing time-lapse response of the reservoir. Due to the high acquisition cost, many mature reservoirs using an OBN approach for time-lapse imaging are surveyed several years apart, resulting in the missed opportunity to effectively manage and understand the reservoir. To eliminate this risk, OptaSense has identified a low-cost DFOS solution that would enable comparable or better quality seismic surveys at more frequent intervals.
